$img_titleSewing centre set up by Sewa Bharti, Delhi at Kabir Nagar locality in Yamuna Vihar has come a long way in enabling the poor women of the locality to eke out a respectable living for them and their families. Kabir Nagar locality in Yamuna Vihar sector has a special importance. In 1984, the pot makers migrated to this place from their New Shahdara homes in search of better pastures.  During that period, Jyoti Nagar (West) was fast developing as higher middle class colony. The Muslim locality situated to west of Jyoti Nagar near Babarpur canal was called Gadhapuri. Slowly, the Hindu locality developed along the main road while the Muslim population settled at the back side. This Hindu colony later came to be known as Kabir Nagar.

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA Naresh Gaur from Babarpur Assembly Constituency who was elected in 1984 became an agent of change for this locality. New roads were constructed and existing ones repaired and sewer lines were laid. Besides, major development works were undertaken around the mosque.  Gaur was re-elected in 1988 from the same constituency. He utilized this second innings to accelerate the pace of development in this area.

Sewa Bharti decided to seize this opportunity by starting a sewing training centre at Jyoti Public School for the economically weaker women of the locality. Ashok Sharma extended all possible help to Seva Bharti in setting this centre. Rekha Sharma from Babarpur, Sapna Sharma and Kusum were given the responsibility to teach and train the women at the centre. However, the centre was shifted to Babarpur Model School with the help of MLA Naresh Gaur.

In the initial stages, some of the teachers left due to some personal reasons and the responsibility fell on the shoulders of one Savita Sharma who managed the centre with great care and meticulous planning.  The centre was shifted once again to Sunrise Public School. Since last four years the centre is running in full swing. Swati Garg has joined with Savita Sharma and this team of two instructors is training the 70-odd students. The provision for acquiring diploma of the National Open School is available at this centre. The students of this centre also participate in other activities of Sewa Bharti.
